Our History
After more than five years of prayer and preparation, Pastor Chris Chadwick and his wife, Debbie, arrived in San Diego in September of 2002 to establish a Bible-believing church. Canyon Ridge Baptist Church became a reality in November of 2002. Today, Canyon Ridge remains a loving, active church serving the Linda Vista community of San Diego!
From the beginning, Canyon Ridge has focused on meeting people in the community, knocking doors, and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church met in the Kearny Mesa Recreation Center on Sundays and for a brief time in the Chadwicks’ home for their mid-week service. The Lord blessed immensely. By 2004, not only had CRBC grown numerically, but had become financially self-supporting.
Throughout 2004 and 2005, Pastor Chadwick and various realtors searched San Diego for a permanent location for CRBC to purchase or lease. In 2006 and 2007, the need for a larger, more permanent location became a necessity. By January 2008, Canyon Ridge had outgrown the Rec. Center and had moved its services to Chesterton Elementary School.
This new facility provided a larger, more secure place to meet, but CRBC continued to set up chairs, a sound system, musical instruments, classrooms, a pulpit, and signage three times a week. Cheerfully and consistently the congregation gave and served with the hope that Canyon Ridge would have the opportunity to purchase its own facility and thus be enabled to impact the community more effectively.
That opportunity arrived in God’s perfect timing, and CRBC took ownership of 6866 Linda Vista Road on December 31, 2009. Canyon Ridge finally had a permanent location, and the members and friends of CRBC immediately began working to clean, decorate, and remodel the dilapidated buildings they now called their “church home.”
Since first arriving on the property, Canyon Ridge has cultivated every relationship and given every effort to take its place in the community as a church that cares and as a church that will take action for the betterment of Linda Vista and San Diego. Through the relationships developed in the community, Canyon Ridge has had opportunity to meet, influence and minister to city council members, county officials, local school officials and many others living and working in San Diego. At every turn, the goal is to communicate the Good News to a lost and dying world! Canyon Ridge looks forward to many years of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in San Diego and seeing homes and lives changed for the glory of Christ.
